This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

Swimming this Weekend

First before the weekend swimming info, I would like to clarify an item in today's WDN. The crowd at last night's Winona SHS Boys Dual Meet with Faribault had WAY more than 50 people in attendance. It was Senior Night and with nearly 30 swimmers and divers, there were that many parents in the stands. Add into the count brothers, sisters, extended family, students, and the Faribault fans that had come to watch. I would estimate the crowd in excess of 100 myself.
ANYWAY,

This weekend the Minnesota Challenge takes place at the University of MN Aquatic Center.

Teams from all over the Midwest, both Division I and Division II teams will compete. The 17-team meet will feature 10 other teams from Minnesota. Aside from the Gophers, the University of North Dakota, South Dakota State University and the University of Illinois will be the only other Division I teams in attendance. Division II Teams that will be there include St. Cloud State, Uw Eau Claire, St. Thomas, Minnesota State U Mankato, UW Wisc Stevens Point and others. Division III includes our own St. Mary’s University Cardinals. St. John’s, U of MN Morris, Carelton College, the list goes on!

Winona Alums Matt Papenfuss and Abbey Staats (Univ of MN) Alyssa Trainor ( UW Eau Claire) and Aimee Peterson ( SCSU) should be swimming over the course of the two days.

You are already too late for Friday’s Competition but Saturday Prelims start at Noon, Diving is after prelims and Finals start at 6PM.

The Winona Wizards Swim Club is in action at the MSAC Polar Plunge taking place at the St. Kate spool in St. Paul.
