This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

USA Swimming Grand Prix this Weekend

The USA Swimming Grand Prix has released the Psyc Sheet (entries by event and time) for the upcoming meet at the University of MN this weekend.

You have GOTTA get there. They say that the NCAA Div I Championships is the fastest swim meet in the world because it is swum in a 25 yard pool. Well, so will this meet, and with the line-up that is entered, this may very well be THE fastest swim meet you will ever see!

Many of the USA Swimming National Team members will be there. Headlining are Olympians Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. Fellow Olympian Chloe Sutton, (last year’s winner of the Grand Prix Series and $20,000), the Open Water and Distance Specialist returns along with a host of Men & Women USA National Team Members.

The University of Michigan Men’s Swim Team will be in attendance, currently ranked #6 in the country in NCAA Div 1. The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Mens Team is currently ranked 12th, (the Women's Team is ranked 14th) will defend their pool with all the vigor they can. You can see Winona Alums Matt Papenfuss and Abbey Staats swimming for the Gophers, Matt is entered in the 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle events, Abbey is also entered in the 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle events.

You can see all the FAST entry times at :

For meet information and a schedule of events go to the end of the meet information sheet:

Remember the meet is held in a prelim/final format. Prelims are swum in the morning. The top 24 swimmers return for the evening finals which are done up big with announcing, music, and awards ceremonies. It is a festive and light atmosphere, the swimmers means business, but are in the most relaxed meet environment that they typically see.

Autographs and pictures are NOT out of the question if you can catch the stars at the right place.
