This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

While I am at it

Sorry, I am still working on my write up of Tuesday night's Winhawk swim meet at Roch JM.

But, did you know, the University of Minnesota Swimming Season is kicking off? The Gopher Womens' team travels to Michigan this weekend for meets against Michigan on Friday night and Michigan State on Saturday. Their first home meet is the following Saturday against Iowa State. I will keep you informed.

The Men don't debut until the end of the month but they have a number of home meets this year.

Most of the home meets (except Iowa State) are run co-ed so you'll be able to watch both squads and see Winona natives Gopher Junior Matt Pappenfus and Sophmore Abby Staats. There will be opportunities to watch Big 10 swimming ( Wisconsin & Iown) as well as North Carolina & Missouri. Plus you have the USA Swimming Grand Prix in November which is the U of W Men & Womens' chance to take on not just other college athletes but some National Team/Olympic caliber swimmers as well. They take it as a direct challenge to have all these high calibre swimmers coming into THEIR pool.

Don't forget, college meets mean DIVING, DIVING DIVING. Not just one meter diving but 3 meter diving AND PLATFORM. If I ever thought about moving back to the Twin Cities.................

Lastly the U of M Men's Team hosts BOTH the Big 10 Championships AND the NCAA Division 1 Championships this year. What a great chance to see unbelieveable swimming. Because they compete NCAAs in the 25 yard pool they call it the FASTEST SWIMMING MEET IN THE WORLD!
