This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

Section 1AA True Team Results

The Section 1AA True Team event was held in Faribault Saturday.

Race results are still coming but team results are available.

TEAM SCORES — 1. Farmington 722, 2. Rochester JM 688, 3. Faribault 648, 4. Winona 571, 5. Owatonna 510

The nature of the True Team meet is to reward a team for the quality of its swimmers through the entire roster, rather than merely the handful of fast swimmers scoring points in their 4 events in a meet. Spread out over the sprints, non-free and distance, 3 or 4 swimmers can win you a dual meet. Not all teams participate in the True Team Meet for that very reason, they don’t have to and they already know the depth of their squad. For other coaches, it is a bit of an assessment of where things stand and helps determine how they might want to swim their athletes in Sections.

As evidence of the concept, while Rochester John Marshall took many first-place finishes, Farmington took the team title with 722 points. JM finished second and Faribault took third.

Farmington, the only non Big 9 school attending the Section 1AA meet, may seem like kind of a surprise, but not to the coaches. The two teams that will vie for both the Conference and Section Championships, Rochester JM and Rochester Century each had Farmington on their dual meet schedule this season. In their dual meet, Century beat Farmington 95-88. Rochester JM will swim them on the 26th, the Tuesday prior to the Big 9 Conference meet.

When I receive the individual meet results for Winona I will post them.
