NCAA Zone Diving Meet Visits Aquatic Center

For those of you into diving (Count me in that group!)

The University of Minnesota will be the host of the 2009 NCAA Zone C Diving Championships March 13-15 at University Aquatic Center. The meet serves as the qualifying competition for the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas. Eight men and 10 women will obtain berths to the NCAA Championships from the zone.

Competitions in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events and the platform will consist of a six-dive preliminaries session. After a brief break, the top 18 divers will advance to the finals. Scores from the preliminaries will carry over to the finals session to help determine a champion.

Admission to the event is free.

NCAA Zone C consists of schools located in central United States, covering Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin. There are five NCAA zones overall with each hosting its own NCAA qualifying meet.

University Aquatic Center has hosted the NCAA Zone C Championships three times previously in 1992, 1997 and 2000. The facility has hosted eight NCAA men's or women's championships and 10 Big Ten Championships.

Minnesota will have four entrants at the Championships including Cole Young, Drew Brown and Tyler Jepsen on the men's side in addition to Taylor Enerson on the women's side. Headlining the field will be 2008 U.S. Olympians David Boudia (Purdue) and Christina Loukas (Indiana).
