This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

ALL streaks, by definition, come to an end

Rochester John Marshall comes to town maybe appreciating wins a little more than last year. They were 12-0 last year, Big 9 Champs AND Section 1AA Champs five times and ninth at Class AA State. After kicking off this year, they were riding a 54 straight dual meets into this September. That all came crashing down a month ago and they have now lost (shutter) TWO dual meets this season, ( Mayo and Mankato West). So maybe they have a more urgent sense about winning those that they think they can win, making them all the more vulnerable because the opposite is also a little more realistic in their minds.

Rest assured, they still have some great swimmers and put up some great swims. Seniors Taylor Bass, Anna Becker and Taylor Emery all qualified for the state meet a year ago and were all-conference. They are strong in the technical strokes but slightly, very slightly vulnerable in the sprints and diving.

Times of note:

200 medley relay: (Taylor Bass, Anna Becker, Brenna Sharp, Taylor Emery) 1:58.02. 1:54.08
200 freestyle: Alyssa George 2:13.96.
200 IM: Anna Becker 2:20.58. Taylor Bass (JM) 2:18.51
50 freestyle: Taylor Bass 25.53. Taylor Emery 26.29
100 butterfly: Sharp 1:05.13.
100 freestyle: Emery 59.14. Anna Becker 56.76
500 freestyle: Becker 5:38.38.
200 free relay: John Marshall (Bass, Jessalyn Cox, Emery, Maya Clarke, Johnson) 1:48.38.
100 backstroke: Cox 1:08.07. Taylor Bass 59.56
100 breaststroke: Taylor Bass 1:13.55. Anna Becker 1:11.13 Christina Wentz 1:14.91
400 free relay: John Marshall (Clarke, Sharp, Lauren Fee, Becker) 3:58.88. (Bass, Emery, Maya Clarke, Becker) 3:57.56

The Winhawks are coming off of a GREAT Spartan Invitational and are feeling pretty good about themselves. Combining that with having pushed back hard against Faribault last week, they may just be ready to step up to the next level.

WSHS Pool, 6PM Wednesday Parents night BE THERE!
