Competition,
the great equalizer.
I was
holding off on posting this, wanting the Winona Winhawks (6-5-0) (4-3-0) to
savor their 3rd place finish at Section True Team. Because the stark
reality is that on Tuesday, the Rochester Mayo Spartans (7-1-0)(7-1-0) come a
callin’ and they are, well, fast.
Their one
and only loss is to Rochester JM in the first meet of the year. That was a 95-88 score so I would like to see
more details but bet it was a great meet. Since that time Mayo has laid waste
to the Big 9 field. For example, Against Albert Lea's Mayo went 1-2-3 in 200
IM, 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle. At Owatonna Olivia Cook set a pool
record in the 500 freestyle and Mayo swept the top three spots in both the 500
freestyle and 100 butterfly. The Spartans set the pool record at Faribault in
the 400 freestyle relay and had 1-2-3 finishes in the 200 freestyle, 200 IM and
100 freestyle. Against Rochester Century the Spartans' 200 freestyle relay of
Shavonne Chen, Michelle Campeau, Oliva Cook and Hannah Barartz set a Mayo pool
record. I really have no idea of their times in the 100 Breaststroke because the
Post Bulletin only publishes the winning swimmer/times, and they are ALWAYS
swimming exhibition by then.
The theme
for Tuesday night is to just go out and have some fun! I assume it’s Parents
Night and you can just relax, enjoy the show and look toward building for Big 9
and sections!!
