This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

Competitive! You BET, the Winhawks mean business and bring it each meet!

Ok, I again apologize, I’ve been traveling and am between laptops so no meet results........., yet.

If you’re a Winhawk swimming fan you probably heard about the AWESOME win they had against Faribault last Thursday AND the fourth place finish in the Blaine Invitational Saturday. I will try to get to those results soon, but up tomorrow night is the next dual meet thriller, Winona Winhawks (2-2-0) (1-1-0) vs Rochester Century (2-3-0) (2-1-0)

Both Century and Winona are coming off emotional Big 9 wins last Thursday. Rochester has had a few close meets with Mankato West (L), Faribault (W) and Owatonna (W). Their meet last Thursday with the Huskies was almost identical to WInona's in that  it came down to the last relay. They held the lead and needed a 2-3 finish to hang on, pulling out a nail biter.

Match-up wise, Century lost to Maple Grove in their first meet, and Maple Grove lost to Osseo who just finished behind the Winhawks in last weekend’s Blaine Invitational. Confused yet, ‘cause I know I am and i typed it.

What it boils down to is this meet has the potential to be even more exciting than last Thursday’s “down to the wire” meet in Faribault. There the Winhawks were in the lead but almost let the Falcons in the back door. A MONSTER effort in the 400 Free Relay secured the win. Tuesday's match-up may be more of a back and forth affair, where the team that wants it more will be standing in the end!

Too bad diving will be over at the Middle School, it will be a great contest between Winona’s Crystal Franzwa and Century’s Andrianna  Jacobs. Relays will definitely be key in the meet and Winona looks good in that category. This is another meet where the 2-3-4 spots will determine the outcome!

Be there, WSHS Pool, 6PM!
