This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

Winona takes on Faribault Tuesday

The Winona Winhawks (7-2) return to dual meet action Tuesday the 29th visiting Faribault (8-1).
Faribault has a very strong team and Coach Steve Burt’s choices are few if he wants to try and contend this meet.
Faribault has an all JR/SR sub 2 minute 200Medley Relay, and the Winhawk A relay of JR Sam Quandahl, FR Alexandra Zuelke, and 8th graders Reese Galewski and Haley O;Neil will have to sprint all out to match it.
The 200FR is also a strong suit for Faribault, Winhawk SO MacKenzie Brosnahan is the only Winhalk to keep up with their times this season.
The 200IM will also see Faribault shooting for a 1-2. Look for Winhawk FR Alexandra Zuelke to be called upon to breask up their plans.
The 50FR will be a very close race and is Winona’s first quality chance for a win on the evening, Look for JR Bridget Bawek to lead the field surrounded by the Faribault swimmers. Winhawk SR Co-Captain Aimee Peterson could step up as a real spoiler here.
Faribault is also a very strong diving team with JR Chelsea Borwege coming off a State Meet appearance last year. 9th Grader Crystal Franswa and JR. Lianna Hawthorne will have to have a good night on the board to prevent being outscored here.
The 100FL will require Sam Quandahl and 8th Grader Reese Galewski to swim their best of the year to beat Faribault’s Ellie Erickson.

The 100FR will also be a a strong Faribault event unless the Winhawk’s send MacKenzie Brosnahan to the blocks to contend.
The 500FR will see Faribault’s Jenna Peanasky swimming away wit the event, Winona will need to work hard to get high points for 2 – 5th.
The 200FR Relay will be a premier race and Winona’s A relay of JR Bridget Bawek, SO Olivia Staats, SR Aimee Peterson and 8h gr Haley O’Neil should take a first in the event.
The 100BK will require Sam Quandahl and Olivia Staats to push their season bests to take 2nd or 3rd.
The 100BR is another event that Winona will bring home the win with FR Alexandra Zuelke outdistancing the Faribault swimmers.
The 400FR Relay will also be Winona’s to win if Bawek, Staats, Brosnahan and Zuelke are not exhausted from earlier contests.
