This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

Rochester John Marshall storms into town.

Rochester JM has shaped up to be the première force in the Big 9 dominating duals and the Section 1AA True Team. They will come to Winona looking to end the dual meet season undefeated in duals as everyone prepares for the Big 9 meet. Winona could deflate their balloon if they swim well.
The JM Medley relay looks to repeat their appearance at last year’s State Meet. Winona’s team of JR. Samantha Quandahl, FR. Alexandra Zuelke, and 8th graders, Reece Galewski and Haley O’Neil can push them and possibly steal the win.
The 200FR could be the race of the night if the Winhawks send SO MacKenzie Brosnahan to the blocks. She can take JM’s Ricard and Aksamit avenging a True Team loss.
The 200IM will be JMs to 1-2. Winhawk FR Alexandra Zuelke could be the one to break up a JM sweep.
The 50FR will be fast as well and Winhawk JR Bridget Bawek will need to be on her game to place in the top three.
Being a really well rounded team means diving is also covered by JM including a state meet performer. Winona’s Crystal Franswa has a chance to really show how far she has progressed this year as we near Conference and Sections.
The 100FL will require JR Samantha Quandahl to swim her time of the season.
The 100FR will require another marquee swim by Winhawk SO MacKenzie Brosnahan to prevent a JM 1-2-3 finish.
If Roch produces anything, they manufacture distance swimmers. JM has three girls that swim sub 6 minute 500’s. Who to counter this assault with will be Coach Burt’s big decision of the night.
Winona’s 200FR Relay team is undefeated in Dual meets through 10/13 and this will be their big test of the reason prior to Conference and Sections. Winhawks Bridget B., Olivia S., MacKenzie B., and Alexandra Z will have to swim the relay of the season to stay unbeaten.
The 100BK could be a big event for the Winhawks depending on who is left to race. Look to SO Olivia Staats to step up and score points for Winona.
The 100BR is also a scoring opportunity for Winona. FR Alexandra Zuelke should bring home a solid win and if Taylor Johnson is felling better, a possible second.
Both “A” and “B” 400FR Relay teams of JM are just plain quick. Winona’s “A” relay will need to have a good race to prevent a JM 1-2.
