This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

So, if we learned anything we learned…………

The Winona Winhawks (1-2, 1-2) left the “eye” of Rochester Mayo HS last Thursday with some eye openers and some indicators. Rochester Mayo (3-3, 3-3) was all the slim yet potent it was billed to be.

First and foremost I cannot do my usual event by event breakdown and scoring as I was not able to attend, ( work required me to call Japan which time zone wise is just starting Wednesday as we are trying to wind down Tuesday), ALSO I do not have the meet results details. (The same can be said for the Winfins results from Mankato and the Wizards results from Red Wing) Coaches, your kids and their relatives want to see those results published SOMEWHERE and you need to get me meet results to make it happen here.Swimmers bug your coaches to send me their meet results!

Anyway, back to the Winhawks/Spartans results. What I can tell you is:

The Winhawks’ “A” 200 Medley Relay took 2nd. The team of Jr. Avery Prondzinski., Freshman Cal Dretske, 8th Grader Kyle Schneider and Sr. Co-Captain Louie La Porta swam their second fastest time of the season at 1:50.94

The lone highlight of the 200 Freestyle was Sr. Danjeer Presson swimming a new personal best.

The 200 IM, long a talent vacuum for the Winhawks saw 3 personal bests out of the swimmers of the future! Freshman Cal Dretske set a personal best for the second time in 5 days. 8th Grader Kyle Schneider did the exact same thing. Lastly, Cotter 7th Grader Tyler Suman also added a personal best to the fray.

The 50 Freestyle saw the Winhawks take their only contested win of the evening. Sr. Co-Captain Louie La Porta won the 50 swimming his second fastest 50 Free event of the season. Juniors Kory McDonald and Ben Streukens both added personal bests to the results.

Diving saw Justin Bublitz score his best 6 dive routine of the season and Dan Karnick scored a second personal best of the season in taking second place.

The 100 Butterfly saw nothing other than Kory McDonald sent out to swim it for the first time and doing a respectable job.

The 100 Freestyle saw Sr. Co-Captain Louie La Porta place 3rd while setting a new personal best. Junior Avery Prondzinski, swimming the 100 free for the first time this season, bested his times from last year and Junior Ben Streukens setting a second personal best of the evening.

The 500 Freestyle saw Cotter Freshman Hodd Gorman matching his performance of a week ago to show he is for real and Winhawk Sophomore Mic Borsari setting a personal best.

The 200 Freestyle Relay placed 2nd. Junior Alex Kline swam it for the 3rd time this season and set has set a personal best each time including this one. Junior Ben Streukens set a 3rd personal best of the evening in his 50 split.

The 100 Backstroke highlight was Jr. Jesse Graff setting a personal best for the 3rd straight meet.

The 100 Breaststroke saw Jake Johnson set another personal best making it 3 meets in a row he accomplished that feat.

The 400 Freestyle “A” relay placed 2nd and that about covers that event.

Next up for the Winhawks, a make-up meet on Thursday in Albert Lea after the weather cancelation back in early December, followed by the Section 1AA True Team Meet up in Northfield on Saturday.
