This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

Swimming Season Heats up!

The anticipation is palpable as the Winona HS Girls taper toward their Section Prelims.

Section 1AA Competitors as you remember include (in alphabetical order):

Farmington High School
Hastings High School
Owatonna High School
Rochester Century High School
Rochester Mayo High School
Rochester John Marshall  CO-OP w/ Roch Lourdes HS
Winona S.H.S. CO-OP with Cotter High School

Everyone was in Winona last month for the Section True Team except Mayo, and we saw them in the dual and at Big 9.

It’s a long layoff between Conference and Sections for the Big 9 Teams as it is for Farmington. They had their Missota Conference meet last weekend, finishing 3rd behind champion Chanhassen and host Northfield. The lone exception is Hastings, which has their conference championship tomorrow, Nov. 3rd. They are a part of the Suburban East conference along with Cretin-Derham Hall, East Ridge, Forest Lake, Mounds View, Park, Roseville, Stillwater, White Bear Lake, and Woodbury. Over half of whom qualified and scored points at last year’s State Championships, so there is a lot of talent in the water! How the Raiders will react to that level of racing in the midst of their taper will be interesting to observe. Throttling back and keeping your eye on the prize (Sections qualifying) might be a difficult task!
