This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

Even off nights sometimes come with silver linings

The Winona Winhawks (0-3-0), (0-3-0) exited the Rochester JM ( (3-1-1), (3-1-0) pool having been  a little manhandled.

All the Rochester schools are pretty powerful, and if you catch them when they are on and you are off, it exacerbates the problem.  The Winhawks ran into the proverbial brick wall Tuesday night where times were just a bit off their latest.

While most highlights involved the JV where times continue to fall, here are some notable aspects of the meet.

The 200 Freestyle relay saw Sr. Co-Captain Joey Kleinow set another season best time, his second in 3 days.  All the JV 200 Freestylers Jeremey Roberts, Mic Borsari and Ben Struekens dropped time, 4, 2 and 7 seconds respectively.

In the 50 Free Roger Brosnahan shaved additional time to set a new low and is edging his way up to the all-time fastest list. He was followed by Co-Captain Alex Kline and Connor Kosidowski who both also set new personal best times!

The 100 Freestyle was the next highpoint with Ben Struekens and Justin Konkel set the tone by setting personal best times in the JV heat. Inspired Roger Brosnahan lopped nearly a second and a half off to establish a new personal best time placing 2nd and Sr. Co-Captain Joey Kleinow kept his stellar night going setting a season low himself.

In the 500 Freestyle Hodd Gorman improved his season best by another half second.

The 100 Back saw Jeremy Roberts set a new personal best, lopping off 2 seconds.

The 100 Breaststroke featured Jake Johnson setting a new personal best dropping over a second and a half.

Word is the Winhawks capped their evening off in a chivalrous manner stopping to help damsels in distress. The Winhawk Girls’ hockey team bus was distressed and the boys came to the rescue to give them a ride back to Winona.

Sadly there is no slack for the virtuous, next up is Rochester Century at home. The Panthers are considered to be the mightiest of the Rochester threesome and will pose quite an obstacle to the Winhawks getting their first W.
