This is my blog that follows swimming & diving in Winona MN and those Winonans that have left to swim elsewhere. Occasionally I will post items of info related to swimming & diving in general.

First road trip of the season will be a close contest both in the water and of character.

Next up for the Winona Winhawk (0-1, 0-1) Girls Swimming & Diving Team is a trip to Rochester to compete against the Rochester Century (1-0, 1-0) Panthers.

Both teams just one meet into the season and are looking for swimmers to step up and fill voids left from the previous year.

Last Year the Winhawks prevailed by a slim margin scoring big in the sprints, diving, butterfly and the first two relays. This year will require more of the same.

Century returns Sophomore Diver Andrianna Jacobs who was all-conference a year ago and finished 13th at the Class AA State Championships. Seniors Alexandra Shin (Freestyle Sprint) and Erica Perkins ( IM and Breaststroke) also earned all-conference honors while sophomore Eva Koplin (Freestyle) was an honorable mention selection. Look for (Sprint & Back) Erin Perkins (9), IM'er Claire Heins (12) and Distance swimmer Eva Koplin (10) to offer resistance to the Winhawks chances of celebrating on the bus ride home.

It appears the Winhawks will need strong performances from the IM, Diving, Distance, and Breaststroke.

Last year after a Winhawk victory in the Medley Relay, Century rolled out to an early lead and it took lopsided results in Diving, the 100 Free and 200 Free Relay to catch the Winhawks up and buy some points cushion. The same may be true this year.

Winona Winhawks vs Rochester Century Panthers  at the Roch John Marshall Pool, 6PM Tuesday.
