Ok, sorry sorry, been busy.
The Wizards were at the Farmington Shark Fin Frenzy 10 days ago.
19 swimmers registered, many of regulars with some of the newer swimmers turning out as well.
There were some goods swims with many top 6 places by many swimmers and an outstanding weekend by Alexandra Zuelke in her first meet with the Wizards!

2009 Jump Into Summer Twin A Meet at the U of M
Last Weekend was the wrap-up of the Spring Swim Meet Season. Being an "A" only meet, Ryan Whalen went to represent the Wizards in 7 events.
It was a tough meet, a number of the University of Minnesota swimmers were competing like Curt Carlson, Kevin Baseheart, Nico Zebley and our own Matt Papenfuss, who while wearing Maroon & Gold I am sure was a Wizard in spirit as well.
Ryan's results from this tough field were good. He is after all a sprinter, and he showed well against some major competition.
Event # 46 Male 100 Free 57.39L 24th place
Event # 50 Male 200 Back 2:32.63L 23rd place

This weekend's swimming
First and foremost, the Winona Water Wizards are off to Woodbury in the Twin Cities for the
SEMS & Mutual of Omaha’s ABC Open. It will be a big meet, nearly 200 swimmers in the Am and 100 in the afternoons.
The 8 - 12 year old swimmers compete Sat & Sunday morning. The Wolner boys, Grant & Griffin are back in the pool after a weekend off. McKenzie Porter makes it 3 meets in 3 weekends coming off a great 400M FR swim in the Twinvite and breaking the B barrier in her 100IM in the Northfield Dip into Spring. Saturday AM she is doing the 50 BK and then taking a stab at the 200IM. On Sunday she'll swim the 100BK and be joined by Brianna Beseler swimming the 500FR along with the 100FR and 50 BR.
The 13 & over swimmers, McKenna Marg, Reese Galewski, Grace Ell and Mallory Porter all returning after a fun weekend at the Twinvite III at the U of M. They'll be swimming a mix of speed events with Reese, McKenna and Grace doing the 100FR, and work horse outings , with Reese and McKenna in the 200IM, Reese the 100FL, McKenna & Grace in the 200BK. Mallory is still on her Fly kick doing the 100FL on Sat and the 200 fly (again?) on Sunday.
I will post results when they are available.
GRAND PRIX SWIMMING IN CHARLOTTE
If by chance you have spare time this weekend, there is big time swimming on the Net. Many of the big Olympics names including Michael Phelps are competing in the Charlotte UltraSwim, the fifth stop on the 2008-2009 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series, (that started right here in MN last September) which will award the highest-scoring swimmer of the series with a $20,000 prize.
Competition footage from the Charlotte UltraSwim will be broadcast by both Universal Sports and Swimnetwork.com. Universal Sports will air footage from the finals Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17 on its digital cable channel. Swimnetwork.com will provide a live online stream of the Universal Sports broadcast. In addition, Swimnetwork.com will webcast the finals on Thursday, May 14, and the prelims from each day of competition. Swimnetwork.com will also feature on-demand footage of the Friday, Saturday and Sunday night finals as well as behind-the-scenes interviews from the pool deck.

Results of the Winona Water Wizards at the Twinvite III
Here are results for the Winona Swimmers:
Remember:
this is a 50 meter long course (MLC) meet so there are less flip turns AND a meter is 3.13 yards so the events are longer (except for the distance events, they shorten them from 500 to 400 and 1650 to 1500.)
All events were OPEN CLASS - meaning everyone was seeded and placed purely based on time, age was not included.

First Day at the Twinvite Meet at the U of M
The kids did great today. I love going to the U of M for swim meets. It is a great venue. Of all the times I have been there for meets and officiated this is the first when the bulk head had been moved to the end and it was set up as a 50 meter long course pool. It is the same length as our Bob Welsh Aquatic Center pool, but indoors in that natatorium, it can be an intimidating sight.
Being early in the season and starting with a new Team Manager data base, the Wizards are shy some seed times. So many are swimming in the early heats with NT seed times. Which makes it tough to be swimming with no one around you.
I was officiating, so I couldn't record times, I will report on those the next few days when the download is available. Suffice it to say the Winona Water Wizards represented themselve well. The parents were all sitting together in the stands and looked to be having a good time.
